My daily devotional today (I do it out of Our Daily Bread: Daily Readings from the Popular Devotional), focused on 2 Timothy 1:7-12. It was a story about starting the day in the middle of a power outage and how when we start the day reading the paper and listening to the news instead of starting our day with God and prayer, we end up reacting to difficult people and circumstances with a spirit of fear rather than the spirit of "power and of love and of a sound mind." To sum up, we need to start our day with our heavenly Father to ensure a good day. How true this is in my life. When I start my day in prayer and study of His word how smooth my days are!
As I read the verse, I thought how it aptly applies to this weekend and the celebration of the resurrection of our Savior all those many years ago. No matter how times and technology have changed, He remains the same.
2 Timothy 1:7-12
"For the spirit God gaveus does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. So do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or his prisoner. Rather, join me in suffering for the Gospel, by the power of God. He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Jesus Christ who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel. And of this gospel I was appointed a herald, and an apostle and a teacher. That is why I am suffering why I am. Yet this is not cause for shame, because I know who I have believed and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day."
